New books!

Here are a few new books that have caught my attention for storytime use.  Which ones appeal to you?

Who’s on First-  Bud Abbott (illus by John Martz)

A whole new generation of kids will get a kick out of the classic Abbott and Costello routine with this funny picture book. Older kids (Primary –Grade 3) should be able to get the joke, so this would be an excellent choice for someone willing to ham it up. The illustrations are cartoon-like and bright, making this a winner for early-elementary read alouds!

Very Special Friends by Jane Chapman

Mouse is waiting by the riverside for some Very Special Friends to show up. Rabbit, turtle, duckling, and frog wait with her. Turns out, they ARE the Very Special Friends she was waiting for. In bright springy colors, this feel-good tale will fit right in to friendship storytimes.

Have You Seen My New Blue Socks? By Eve Buntingaa blue socks

A green cartoon duckling has lost his new blue socks. He asks Mr. Fox, and Mr. Ox, and goes past some rocks…. Rhyme is the name of the game in this book! The cadence feels very much like “Green Eggs and Ham”. While there is not much to the story, it would still be fun to share in storytime, and older kids might have fun looking for all the words that rhyme.

Everyone Can Learn to Ride a Bicycle by Chris Raschka

Abstract figures and Raschka’s signature style fill the pages of this simple story about learning to ride a bike. Yes, it is hard to do, but you have to keep trying, and then, you’ll never forget.
